Castle Lednica
Lednica, Púchov District, Slovakia, Slovakia
Castle Lednica in Lednica, Púchov District, Slovakia, is a 13th-century Gothic ruin built on a steep rocky ridge to protect Hungary's northwest border and trade routes, first indirectly recorded in 1259. It featured three terraced sections—an upper rectangular ward (50x18m) with a rock observation tower accessed by 80 carved steps, a middle residential area via a 10m rock tunnel, and a lower triangular outer bailey with bastions, stables, and Renaissance expansions under owners like Máté Csák, Hussites, and Rákóczi. Damaged during Rákóczi's uprising and abandoned by the 18th century, the nearly inaccessible site preserves its layout through six Gothic phases and ongoing reconstruction.
