Čeklís
Slovakia, Slovakia
Čeklís is the ruin of a lesser-known 13th-century medieval castle located on the outskirts of Bernolákovo (formerly Čeklís village) in Slovakia's Bratislava Region, strategically positioned to guard a key trade route from the Danube toward Považie. Likely built after the 1241 Tatar invasion, it changed hands among nobles like Matthew III Csák and Abraham Rufus before falling into disuse and destruction by the 16th century, possibly during Rákóczi's uprising in the early 18th century. Today, scant remnants of walls and a moat persist near a church on Várdomb hill, overshadowed by a 1905 water tower, with the site offering a quiet glimpse into local history amid the Podunajská lowland.
