Château De Regnéville
Regnéville-sur-Mer, France, France
The Château de Regnéville is a ruined medieval fortress founded in the 12th century in Regnéville-sur-Mer, Manche department, Normandy, France, overlooking the Sienne River estuary.
Remodeled in the 14th and 15th centuries, it protected the vital drying harbor—one of Cotentin's busiest ports during the Middle Ages—under lords like Charles II of Navarre during the Hundred Years' War, with remnants including a grand donjon tower, upper and lower courtyards, and the 14th-century Porte de Mer gateway.
Deliberately destroyed by Richelieu's troops in 1637, its dramatic vestiges amid scenic coastal paths now host summer markets, exhibitions, and hikes, restored as a historic site by local authorities.
