Château de Suscinio
Morlaix, France, France
Château de Suscinio is a medieval Breton castle located in Sarzeau, France, originally built in the early 13th century as a hunting lodge for the Dukes of Brittany.
Over time, it was expanded into a fortified residence with moats, towers, and strong defensive walls. The castle played an important role in regional politics and was the home to exiled English Lancastrians, including the future King Henry VII, in the late 15th century.
After Brittany lost its autonomy to France in 1514, the castle gradually declined, later being used as a stone quarry before restoration efforts began in the 20th century. Today, the castle is preserved with much of its late medieval structure intact, featuring restored walls, a chapel, and exhibitions that showcase medieval life. It stands surrounded by marshes and is a significant cultural heritage site attracting visitors interested in history and architecture.
