Chateau Ostrov Nad Ohri
Ostrov, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)
Chateau Ostrov nad Ohří is a Baroque palace crowning a hill in the town of Ostrov, Karlovy Vary Region, Czechia, originating from a 15th-century Gothic castle built by the Schlick family and confiscated after the Battle of White Mountain in 1620.
Granted to Duke Julius Henry of Saxe-Lauenburg in 1623, he expanded it with a new Baroque wing called Lauenburg Castle and created Bohemia’s once most famous gardens featuring the White Tower summerhouse designed by Prague architect Abraham Leutner between 1673-1679.
Owned later by the Baden-Baden and Habsburg-Tuscany families, it now serves municipal offices, a library, gallery, and museum amid its preserved historic park.
