Deadvlei
Namib Desert, Hardap Region, Namibia
Deadvlei, located in the Namib Desert within Namib-Naukluft Park in Namibia, is one of the country’s most iconic natural landmarks.
It is a striking white clay pan surrounded by towering red sand dunes and is famous for its ancient blackened camel thorn trees, which died hundreds of years ago when the area’s water supply disappeared. The trees, estimated to be around 600 to 900 years old, have been preserved by the extremely dry desert climate, creating a surreal landscape of dark tree skeletons against white ground, orange dunes, and deep blue skies.
Known for its dramatic beauty and unique geological history, Deadvlei is a world-famous destination for photographers, nature lovers, and travelers seeking one of the most extraordinary desert landscapes on Earth.
