Diviacka Nová Ves
Slovakia, Slovakia
Diviacka Nová Ves is a small village in western Slovakia near Prievidza, first mentioned in historical records in 1270. It features a Gothic fortified manor house built by the Diviacky family between 1380 and 1401, later expanded into a Renaissance four-winged chateau in 1586 by the Rudnay family with courtyard layout and 17th-18th century modifications. The site gained notoriety in 1808 when Baroness Splényi-Ujfalussy incited a peasant uprising to seize it amid a property dispute, and by 1886 it became a distillery before 1970s restoration. The village along the Nitrica River has a history of mills, taverns, Jewish cemetery from the 19th-20th centuries, and 20th-century developments like electrification in 1948, school openings, and 1960 merger with Vrbany.
