Dvorac Brezovica
Brezovica, Croatia, Slovakia
Dvorac Brezovica is a late Baroque chateau in the Zagreb suburb of Brezovica, Croatia, built in the mid-18th century by General Josip Kazimir Drašković with a U-shaped layout, corner cylindrical towers, and a central risalit featuring frescoes from 1776 depicting Seven Years' War battle scenes from his campaigns. Originally tied to noble families like Ivanović and Mrnjavčić before passing to the Draškovići in 1664 after Zrinski disputes, it hosted fairs from 1781 under their initiative, later owned by Ban Gyulay in 1807, merchant Ausch in 1893, and Zagreb Archdiocese from 1912, which founded a Carmelite convent there in 1939. Nationalized in 1946 and repurposed as a horticultural school, military site, and apartments, the preserved manor amid its park reflects Croatia's noble heritage despite varied modern uses.
