Hrad Blh
Veľký Blh, Slovakia, Slovakia
Hrad Blh is the ruin of a 13th-century Gothic castle overlooking the village of Veľký Blh in central Slovakia's Gemer region, first documented in 1323 and initially owned by Matthew Csák before passing to the Balog family.
Renovated in Gothic style around 1323 and fortified in 1483 amid Turkish invasions, it later belonged to families like Széchy, Wesselényi, and Koháry, serving as a border stronghold until destroyed in the 18th century during uprisings by Thököly and Rákóczi.
The scant remnants of walls and terrain features sit at 531 meters elevation within the Teplý Vrch game preserve, accessible by hikes amid rocky landscapes and Bronze Age settlement traces nearby.
