Hrad Hodejov
Hodejov, Slovakia, Slovakia
Hrad Hodejov in Hodejov, Slovakia, is a ruined 13th-century castle built on a hill above the village, first mentioned in 1281 during a clash between King Ladislav IV and rebellious palatine Finta, possibly founded by the Ratold noble family or by royal order under Charles I Robert in 1308. Serving mainly as a manorial seat, it changed hands among nobles like Juraj z Jelšavy, Michal Orság, and the Lorántffy family amid 15th-century conflicts with Hussites and robber barons. Successfully defended against Ottoman assaults in 1560, it fell to Turkish forces around 1571 using ladders, was razed on orders from the Pasha of Buda, and later quarried for tuff until 1956, leaving protected remnants of the outer bailey amid modern disturbances like a cemetery.
