Hričov Castle in Hričovské Podhradie, Slovakia, is a 13th-century Gothic ruin built around 1254-1265 by Master Toluš on a Great Moravian hillfort site above the Váh River valley to guard key trade routes. First mentioned in 1265 under King Béla IV, it passed through noble families like Balassa and Csák, withstood Hussite occupations in the 1430s-1440s, and saw late Gothic expansions including a four-sided gate tower, palaces, and outer bailey accessed via rock fissures before abandonment by the Thurzo family in 1574 for a more comfortable residence. Sacked by hajduks in 1605 and left to decay, its remnants of walls, towers, and palaces now offer hikers panoramic views amid steep cliffs.
