Ile-Alatau National Park

Ile-Alatau National Park is a large protected nature area just south of Almaty, Kazakhstan. It was created in 1996 and covers about 200,000 hectares in the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains, which are part of the bigger Tian Shan mountain range. The park stretches from the Turgen Gorge to the Chemolgan River and is very close to the city, making it an easy place for locals and tourists to visit.

The park is famous for its beautiful landscapes. There are snowy mountain peaks, deep green valleys, alpine meadows, forests, glaciers, and clear blue lakes. One of the most popular spots is Big Almaty Lake, a high mountain lake with bright blue water. There are also waterfalls, such as the Butakovskiy Waterfall, and many scenic hiking trails.

Ile-Alatau National Park has rich plant and animal life. Over 1,200 species of plants grow here, including wild apple and apricot trees. The park is home to many wild animals, such as snow leopards, brown bears, Central Asian lynx, mountain goats, deer, and golden eagles. It is also a great place for birdwatching because over 200 types of birds live in the different parts of the park.

Visitors come to Ile-Alatau for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and climbing. In winter, people enjoy skiing and snowboarding. There are many places with beautiful views, and visitors often see wildlife while walking in the park. It is popular for day trips or short holidays from Almaty because it is so close to the city.

Besides nature, the park also has a rich history. There are ancient petroglyphs, old shrines, and archaeological sites inside the park. These show that people have lived in and visited these mountains for thousands of years.
