Jardín Botánico - Histórico La Concepción
Spain, Spain
Jardín Botánico-Histórico La Concepción is a historic, English-style landscape garden on the northern edge of Málaga, created around 1855–1857 on a hillside estate above the Guadalmedina River by the Marquis and Marchioness of Casa Loring and later expanded by the Echevarría-Echevarrieta family.
Recognised in 1943 as a “historic-artistic garden” and now managed by the city council, it covers about 3.5 hectares of historic core within a larger estate and is one of the few European gardens specialising in subtropical plants, with a lush design of winding paths, cascades, streams, fountains, stairways, greenhouses and viewpoints amid mature trees and palms.
The garden holds more than 2,000–3,000 species and tens of thousands of individual plants, including over a hundred palm species, many bamboos, aquatic plants and a rich mix of tropical, subtropical and native Mediterranean flora, making it both a scientific-educational centre and a popular green refuge where visitors can stroll, learn about botany and enjoy a romantic 19th‑century landscape.
