Khustain Nuruu National Park
Töv Province, Mongolia
Khustain Nuruu National Park, also known as Hustai National Park, is a protected area in Töv Province, about 100 kilometers west of Ulaanbaatar. The park is best known for its successful conservation program that reintroduced the Przewalski’s horse, or takhi, the world’s last truly wild horse species, back into its natural habitat. The landscape features rolling grasslands, forested hills, river valleys, and open steppe, creating an ideal environment for a variety of wildlife. In addition to the takhi, visitors may see deer, gazelles, wild boars, wolves, marmots, and many species of birds, including golden eagles. Established as a protected area in 1993, Khustain Nuruu National Park is considered one of Mongolia’s greatest conservation success stories and is a popular destination for wildlife viewing, hiking, photography, and experiencing the country’s natural steppe landscapes.
