La Cava Castle

Aglandjia, Cyprus, Cyprus

---

La Cava Castle is a medieval fortress ruin located in Aglandjia, near Nicosia, Cyprus.

It is believed to have been built in the late 14th century, during the rule of the Kingdom of Cyprus, and served as a defensive stronghold in the region. The castle experienced several periods of destruction and rebuilding. It was damaged during invasions in the 15th and 16th centuries and later partially reused by the Ottomans, who reportedly used parts of the structure for storing gunpowder.

Over time, much of the castle collapsed, leaving only ruins of the original complex. Today, La Cava Castle is an important historical site that offers insight into Cyprus’s medieval past. Although only remnants remain, the ruins are valued for their archaeological significance and for reflecting the island’s long history of conflict, defense, and cultural change.
