Liptovský Hrad
Liptovská Sielnica, Slovakia, Slovakia
Liptovský Hrad, also known as Liptov Castle or Sielnický Hrad, is a 13th-century ruin overlooking Liptovská Sielnica near the Liptov region's marshes in Slovakia. First documented in 1262 under King Béla IV on a prehistoric hillfort site, it served as a royal defensive outpost guarding the Váh River ford and Magna Via trade route, later becoming the Liptov County seat from 1340. Repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt—by Hussites in 1431-1434, expanded with parkán walls in the 15th century—it changed hands among nobles until imperial shelling during Rákóczi's 1709 uprising left it in ruins.
