Mistra Bay
Malta, Malta
Mistra Bay is a serene, cliff-surrounded bay in northeastern Malta near Mellieħa, considered an inlet of St. Paul’s Bay. It features a small pebble beach with clear, calm, and shallow waters that make it ideal for swimming and snorkeling, attracting vibrant underwater life including colorful fish, corals, and octopuses. The bay is more of a local spot than a tourist destination, often quiet except for Maltese visitors setting up impromptu tents. Historically, the area dates back thousands of years with Phoenician caves nearby and the Mistra Battery, an artillery outpost built by the Knights of St. John in 1761 to defend against naval invasions. A couple of restaurants sit on the bay’s north side along a rugged road, and several fish farms are located about 595 meters offshore. Recent cleanup efforts have improved the beach, which offers easy parking and access while retaining its rugged, unspoiled natural beauty.
