Mnajdra Temples

Qrendi, Southern Region, Malta

---

The Mnajdra Temples, located near Qrendi on Malta’s southern coast, are a remarkable prehistoric temple complex dating from around 3600 to 2500 BC.

They are among the world’s oldest religious structures and form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Megalithic Temples of Malta. The complex consists of three interconnected temples built from massive limestone blocks and showcases the advanced engineering skills of Malta’s Neolithic inhabitants.

It is especially famous for its precise astronomical alignment, with sunlight entering the southern temple during the spring and autumn equinoxes and marking the solstices at specific points within the structure. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the islet of Filfla, Mnajdra combines archaeological importance with a stunning coastal setting. Its impressive architecture, great antiquity, and connection to early astronomy make it one of Malta’s most extraordinary historical sites.
