Montecristo National Park, located near Metapán in the Santa Ana department of El Salvador, is a protected area known for its rare cloud forest ecosystem and high biodiversity. It covers about 19.73 square kilometers and is part of the Trifinio Fraternidad Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, which also includes protected regions in Guatemala and Honduras.

The park's terrain features steep slopes, rolling mountains, and dense forests with towering oak and laurel trees covered in moss, ferns, and orchids, creating a cool and misty environment distinct from the surrounding lowlands. It is home to diverse wildlife including elusive mammals like pumas, margays, and Baird’s tapirs, as well as over 275 bird species such as the resplendent quetzal.

Visitors enjoy hiking trails, including routes to the park's highest point, El Trifinio peak, where the borders of three countries meet, with opportunities for camping and experiencing the tranquil cloud forest. Conservation efforts focus on protecting this fragile ecosystem from threats like illegal logging and climate change, while promoting sustainable tourism and environmental education.
