Mt Hagen Show Grounds is a large open field just outside the town of Mount Hagen in Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands Province, best known as the main venue for the Mount Hagen Cultural Show (often called the Hagen Show). It is set in a dramatic highland landscape overlooked by Mount Hagen volcano and used as a festive arena where dozens of tribal groups from the Highlands and surrounding regions gather to perform traditional dances, songs, and rituals in colourful face paint, feathers, and body decorations. The show grounds host hundreds of performers and visitors over a few days every August, combining cultural competition, music, and arts‑and‑crafts displays, and has become one of PNG’s most iconic and photographed cultural events attracting both local communities and international tourists.
