MUCBO | Jardí Botànic
Port de Sóller, Spain, Spain
MUCBO | Jardí Botànic de Sóller is a combined botanical garden and natural sciences museum located on the Palma–Port de Sóller road near Port de Sóller, on the island of Mallorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands.
It is run by the Sóller Botanical Garden Foundation together with the Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences, and is considered a pioneering regional centre for research, conservation, public outreach and environmental education focused on Balearic nature. The botanical garden itself was founded in 1985 and opened to the public in 1992 as a space dedicated to conserving, studying and explaining Mediterranean and especially Balearic flora, with particular attention to endemic and threatened species.
Laid out in stone-walled terraces typical of the Sóller valley, it organises its living collections into two broad groups: wild plants (including Balearic, Canarian and other Mediterranean species) and cultivated plants such as ornamentals, medicinal species, fruit trees and vegetables. Alongside the outdoor collections, the institution maintains a herbarium and germplasm bank and offers exhibitions, workshops and school visits, giving visitors a chance to explore regional plant diversity and wider natural history in a compact, well-integrated garden–museum setting.
