The National Museum of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Kinshasa, is the country’s main museum of Congolese cultural and historical heritage, opened to the public in November 2019 after a three‑year construction period. Designed with modern, environmentally conscious features such as solar power and natural ventilation, the building was funded by the Republic of Korea at a cost of about 21 million USD and stands as the largest South Korean cultural‑policy investment in Central Africa. The museum spreads over roughly 6,000 square meters of exhibition space in three main halls, where up to 12,000 objects—including masks, statuettes, textiles, and everyday items from the DRC’s many ethnic groups—can be presented in their cultural context. It replaces older, more limited facilities and aims to strengthen national identity, promote Congolese art and archaeology, and support efforts to repatriate cultural objects taken abroad during the colonial era while serving as a key educational and tourist site in the capital.
