Ngapali Beach
Rakhine State, Myanmar
Ngapali Beach is Myanmar's premier and most developed beach destination, located in Rakhine State on the country's western coast along the Bay of Bengal, approximately 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the town of Thandwe.
The beach stretches about 3 to 7 kilometers along the coastline, featuring soft white sand fringed by coconut palms and clear turquoise waters that are generally calm and safe for swimming, making it an ideal tropical paradise. Often called the best beach in Myanmar, it remains less commercialized than regional counterparts like Phuket while maintaining its fishing village roots, where visitors can watch small fishing boats head out at sundown and enjoy fresh seafood at local restaurants.
The area has 65 hotels and over 2,000 rooms, mostly 4- to 5-star high-end resorts offering beachfront views, spas, and fine dining with rates ranging from $100 to $250 per night. Ngapali Beach experiences a tropical monsoon climate with a peak tourist season from November to March, while most hotels close during the rainy season from May to October.
The beach became accessible primarily through Thandwe Airport, located just 5 kilometers north, though the airport was closed in mid-2024 after the Arakan Army took control of the area on June 24, 2024 during the ongoing Myanmar civil war.
