Pogradec Castle, located on a hill overlooking the city of Pogradec in eastern Albania near Lake Ohrid, is a ruined fortress built on an Illyrian settlement dating back to the 5th century BC.

It may be linked to the ancient settlement known as Enkelana. The site was strategically important for its commanding views and served as a fortified center from the Illyrian through the Roman and Byzantine periods, surviving multiple destructions and reconstructions. Archaeological excavations have revealed defensive walls, urban structures, and layers of ash from conflicts, notably from the Illyrian, Roman, and Macedonian wars.

The castle was inhabited until the 9th century AD when it was destroyed by Slavic invaders and abandoned. Restoration efforts are underway to preserve the site, with plans to develop an archaeological museum and panoramic viewing areas. Today, the castle stands as a significant historic and cultural landmark, offering visitors stunning views and insight into the ancient history of the Pogradec region.
