Seman River
Albania, Albania
The Seman River is a major river in western Albania, formed by the confluence of the Devoll and Osum rivers a few kilometers west of Kuçovë. It flows about 85 kilometers in length across the flat Myzeqe Plain, draining a large basin of roughly 5,649 square kilometers, and then empties into the Adriatic Sea near Topojë, at the southern edge of the Divjakë‑Karavasta National Park. The river plays an important role in the region’s agriculture and ecology, supplying water to fertile lowland areas and supporting wetlands and coastal habitats, including parts of the national park that are rich in birds and other wildlife. In classical antiquity the river was known as Apsus, and today it is also promoted as a quiet, scenic destination for nature‑oriented visitors exploring Albania’s inland waterways.
