Soave Castle is a magnificent medieval fortress perched on a hill above the walled town of Soave in the Veneto region of northern Italy.

Originally established around the 10th century, it was built to defend the area from invasions and later became one of the region’s most important strongholds. The castle is most closely associated with the powerful Scaliger family, who extensively strengthened and expanded it during the 13th and 14th centuries.

They also built the impressive town walls that still surround much of Soave today, giving the town its distinctive medieval appearance. Over the centuries, the fortress passed through the hands of the Scaligers, Viscontis, Venetians, and other rulers, reflecting the turbulent history of northern Italy. As military technology evolved, the castle gradually lost its defensive importance and was eventually converted into a private estate before being restored.

Today, Soave Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Veneto, renowned for its towers, drawbridge, courtyards, and panoramic views over the town and the surrounding vineyards famous for producing Soave wine.
