Torre del Caigo, more accurately known as Torre del Caligo, is the remains of an ancient fortified tower located near Jesolo in the Veneto region of Italy.

Built during the early medieval period, possibly on the foundations of an earlier Roman structure, it stood beside the Caligo canal, an important waterway linking the mainland to the Venetian Lagoon. The tower served as a defensive outpost and customs station, monitoring boat traffic and collecting tolls from merchants transporting goods such as timber and agricultural products toward Venice.

Its strategic position made it an important part of the region’s network of waterways and trade routes. As commercial traffic shifted to other routes in the 17th century, the tower lost its importance and gradually fell into ruin. Today, only part of its structure survives, but it remains a protected archaeological site.

Despite its fragmentary state, Torre del Caigo is valued as a rare reminder of the medieval systems that controlled trade and navigation around the Venetian Lagoon and provides insight into the area’s long history.
