Strážky Chateau
Slovakia, Slovakia
Strážky Chateau is a Renaissance architectural gem in the village of Strážky near Spišská Belá in eastern Slovakia, built in 1570-1590 on the foundations of a 13th-century Gothic castle possibly linked to Knights Templar ruins.
Originally owned by the Croatian noble Horváth-Stansith family, it was expanded into a square four-winged manor with an inner courtyard after a 1708 fire, featuring preserved Renaissance portals and later Baroque-classicist alterations amid a 19th-century English park.
Once home to a prestigious humanistic school founded in 1588 and later painter Ladislav Mednyánszky, it now serves as a Slovak National Gallery branch exhibiting his works alongside Gothic church of St. Anna and a Renaissance belfry as a national cultural monument.
