The Old Castle in Banská Štiavnica is a well-preserved 13th-century Romanesque fortress in central Slovakia, originally built as the Church of the Virgin Mary with a nearby charnel house chapel of St. Michael atop Paradajz hill.

Fortified in the 15th century after a 1443 earthquake with defensive walls, towers, and a gatehouse amid Ottoman threats, it underwent major Renaissance reconstruction from 1546-1559, transforming the nave into a courtyard while converting aisles into garrison quarters, storage, and gunports on corner towers.

Now a museum showcasing mining history and Gothic murals within its irregular hexagonal perimeter, it offers panoramic town views as part of Banská Štiavnica's UNESCO-listed heritage.
