Tirana Castle, also known as the Fortress of Justinian, is an ancient fortress located in the heart of Albania's capital, Tirana.

Its origins date back to the 6th century during the Byzantine era when it was believed to have been built or reconstructed by Emperor Justinian I to protect the region and control important trade routes. The castle evolved over centuries, with significant expansion and reconstruction during the Ottoman period in the 18th century by Ahmet Pashë Bargjini, who built the thick stone walls that remain today.

The fortress once served as a military stronghold and administrative center, and it eventually came under the ownership of the influential Toptani family in 1798, who still hold rights to the site. Currently, the castle is a restored cultural monument featuring Ottoman-era walls incorporated into the pedestrian Murat Toptani Street, which is lined with cafes, shops, and traditional craft stores.

Inside the castle grounds, visitors can enjoy eateries, traditional artisanal stores, and cultural experiences, while the elevated position of the fortress offers panoramic views of Tirana and its surroundings. The castle stands as a symbol of Tirana's long history and urban development, blending ancient architecture with modern-day cultural vibrancy.
