Torre de Ochanda
Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, Spain
Torre de Doña Ochanda is a 15th-century fortified house in Vitoria-Gasteiz's old town, Basque Country, Spain, originally built as part of the city's western defensive walls to guard the Aldabe Gate near the Zapardiel River.
Rebuilt in the 16th century by Andrés Martínez de Iruña and his wife Catalina de Álava as a noble residence named after their daughter Ochanda, it features stone masonry on lower floors and wood-brick above, later adapted into housing before a 1969-1971 historicist restoration added Italianate and Segovian tower elements like overhanging modillions.
Today it houses the Álava Natural Sciences Museum, showcasing Cretaceous amber fossils, regional minerals, plants, and wildlife collections.
