Torre de Torremuelle
Benalmádena, Spain, Spain
Torre de Torremuelle in Benalmádena, Spain, is a 16th-century coastal watchtower built in 1575 during King Philip II's defense program against Barbary pirate raids from North Africa.
This truncated cone-shaped masonry structure, over 10 meters tall with a 23.8-meter perimeter and machicolations for dropping projectiles, features a vaulted upper chamber accessed 7 meters up, an observation slit, and a sloped parapet, signaling threats via smoke or fire to nearby towers.
Recently restored with improved lighting, access paths, and fencing near Torremuelle beach and marina, it stands as a protected Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) alongside towers Bermeja and Quebrada, overlooking ancient Roman ship anchorage sites.
