Torre Salazar
Spain, Spain
Torre de Salazar is a late 15th-century medieval tower house in Portugalete, Biscay province, Basque Country, Spain, constructed around 1494 by Ochoa de Salazar adjacent to the Church of Santa María.
This quadrangular four-story fortress originally served as the residence of the town's provost and a public jail, featuring robust masonry walls, corner ashlar reinforcements, arrow slits, crenellated battlements, and the Salazar family coat of arms above the elevated second-floor entrance.
Damaged by a 1934 fire and rebuilt in 1958-1959 with further restoration in 2003, it now functions as a municipal museum exhibiting Portugalete's history and the Salazar lineage, complemented by panoramic views from its upper level.
