Torreon de la Zuda
Zaragoza, Spain, Spain
Torreón de la Zuda is a 16th-century Renaissance tower in Zaragoza's historic center, Spain, built atop a Muslim alcázar from the era of taifa kings and integrated into the surviving Roman walls dating to Augustus' time.
Originally the homage tower of the governors' palace conquered by Alfonso I "el Batallador" in 1118, it later became a royal winter residence, Knights Hospitaller hospital under Alfonso II's 1180 donation, and Castellán de Amposta seat before serving various roles including royal imprisonment.
Restored in 1946-1952 by Francisco Iñiguez emphasizing its Renaissance form after 19th-century abandonment and partial demolition, it now functions as the city tourist office with panoramic rooftop views of the Ebro River, Basilica del Pilar, and old town.
