Vrana Castle Ruin
Vrana, Croatia, Croatia
Vrana Castle Ruin, also known as the Priory of Vrana, is a historic medieval fortress near the village of Vrana in Croatia.
Originally established as a Benedictine monastery, it became one of the most important political and religious centers in medieval Croatia and was closely associated with the papacy, the Knights Templar, and later the Knights Hospitaller. The fortress was heavily fortified with walls, towers, a moat, and a drawbridge, and for a time it safeguarded the regalia of Croatian kings.
Its strategic location made it a key center of power and administration in the region. After being conquered by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and later damaged during conflicts involving the Republic of Venice, the complex gradually fell into ruin.
