Waterberg Plateau National Park

Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia

---

Waterberg Plateau National Park, located in Namibia’s Otjozondjupa Region, is a scenic conservation area known for its dramatic red sandstone cliffs, elevated plateau, and rich biodiversity. Established in 1972, the park serves as an important refuge for endangered wildlife, including black and white rhinos, buffalo, sable and roan antelope, giraffes, and numerous bird species. The plateau’s unique geography creates greener habitats than the surrounding plains, making it a haven for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails, guided game drives, panoramic viewpoints, and opportunities to explore both the park’s natural beauty and its historical significance as the site of the 1904 Battle of Waterberg. The park is also notable for its ancient geological formations, dinosaur footprints, rock engravings, and successful wildlife conservation programs that have helped restore rare species across Namibia.
