Verified Zámek Kopidlno

Kopidlno, Czechia, Czech Republic (Czechia)

Zámek Kopidlno is a Renaissance-era castle built on the site of an older medieval water fortress and reshaped several times from the 16th century onward, with major Renaissance construction after 1527 and later Baroque and 19th-century alterations.

The three-wing, mostly two-storey building surrounds a closed courtyard with ground-level arcades opening onto it, and its entrance bears the Šlik family coat of arms from the period when the Šliks owned the estate. The castle is set at the southeast edge of Kopidlno square beside an extensive English-style park that contains a noteworthy palm greenhouse modeled on the Schönbrunn example, a large castle pond, an adjoining game preserve, and many rare trees.

The park is publicly accessible even though most of the castle interior is used by the local horticultural school and closed to general visitors. The site is registered as a cultural monument and retains visible historic features—arcaded courtyards, park structures, and the 19th-century orangery/greenhouse ensemble—making it an important local landmark for landscape and architectural history in the Jičín district of Královéhradecký kraj.
