Zatrič
Serbia, Serbia
Zatrič, also known as Zatriq, is a medieval fortress ruin situated at 1,013 meters elevation on Gradište hill near the village of Zatrić in Orahovac Municipality, Kosovo, overlooking the White Drin valley and Prizren region. Featuring an upper town at the peak shaped like a sharp tooth or beak—protected by 50-meter-high sheer rocks on its southern and eastern sides—and a lower town connected by ramps, towers, and walls, archaeological evidence including ceramics and bricks dates its use from around 900 to 1400 AD, possibly originating as a Byzantine military outpost capable of housing thousands. No direct historical records survive, but its strategic ridgeline position offered natural defenses amid uneven hiking terrain, marking it as a key medieval Kosovar fortification.
