Zrúcanina hradu Jasov
Jasov, Slovakia, Slovakia
Zrúcanina hradu Jasov, the ruins of Jasov Castle near Jasov village in Slovakia's Slovak Karst National Park, was constructed in the 13th century as a defensive bastion protecting the nearby Premonstratensian monastery. Positioned on a prominent reef known as Jasov Rock, it changed owners multiple times without playing a major historical role, suffering repeated conquests, burnings, and sieges including a decisive 1467 battle after which it gradually decayed. Today, only scant remnants of its once-mighty ramparts and ditches survive amid the scenic limestone landscape, accessible for exploration despite heavy overgrowth.
