Agropoli is a picturesque coastal town in Italy’s Campania region, located on the southern tip of the Gulf of Salerno along the Tyrrhenian Sea within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Its name means “high city” in Greek, reflecting its origins as a Greek colonial settlement called Akropolis linked to the ancient city of Paestum. The town’s historic center features narrow alleys, ancient churches, medieval walls, and the imposing Aragonese Castle perched on a promontory, which offers panoramic views of the coast and testifies to Agropoli’s strategic defensive past against pirates and invaders.

Agropoli is known for its beautiful sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, small inlets like San Francesco Rock, and unspoiled Mediterranean nature, making it a popular yet less crowded alternative to the nearby Amalfi Coast. It serves as the main gateway to Cilento National Park and a transportation hub with rail connections and a marina, while also maintaining an active fishing industry and traditional celebrations such as the feast of Our Lady of Constantinople, where the statue is processed on the sea.
