The Beguinage of Hoogstraten is a peaceful historic women’s community in Hoogstraten, Belgium, founded around 1380 and rebuilt after a fire in the early 1500s.
It consists of rows of small houses around enclosed courtyards, with a church at the center, and it was created as a place where beguines—religious women who lived independently—could live together. Today it is carefully restored, still inhabited, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
