Belgium Royal Museums of Fine Arts
Brussels, Belgium, Belgium
The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels are one of the country’s most important art institutions, gathering more than 20,000 paintings, sculptures and drawings from the 15th century to the present day in a complex of six museums located in the Royal Quarter near Place Royale and the Mont des Arts.
The core of the complex consists of two large museums in the same building on rue de la Régence: the Museum of Ancient Art (often called the Old Masters Museum), which is especially famous for its unique collection of Flemish Primitives and the world’s second‑largest group of works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder as well as major pieces by Bosch, Rubens and Van Dyck, and the Modern Museum, which presents 19th‑ and 20th‑century Belgian art together with works by artists such as Rodin, Ensor, Khnopff, Delvaux and Broodthaers.
Attached to this building are the Magritte Museum, the only museum dedicated entirely to the surrealist painter René Magritte and housing the largest collection of his works, and the Fin‑de‑Siècle Museum, which focuses on art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Symbolism and early modernism.
