Bellewaerde is a hybrid theme and animal park near Ypres in West Flanders, Belgium, set on about 54 hectares of garden‑style landscapes in the rural countryside just outside the town. Opened in 1954 as a zoo and safari, it has evolved into a compact but family‑oriented destination that mixes traditional rides with animal encounters, including around 300 animals from roughly three dozen species and multiple themed zones where animals live alongside attractions. The park offers more than 30 amusement‑style rides ranging from mild family coasters such as Wakala and Dawson Duel to thrill‑oriented attractions like the Screaming Eagle drop tower, Boomerang roller coaster, and several water rides, as well as a small water‑park‑style aquapark, flower‑filled gardens, and a fairy‑tale‑style “Flower Castle” that make it a popular day‑trip choice for families and school groups in Flanders.
