Berg Castle
Luxembourg, Belgium
Berg Castle in Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg, is the main residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, with origins dating back to the early 15th century.
The current neo-Renaissance building was constructed between 1907 and 1911 after the old castle was demolished because it was too dilapidated. The design, inspired by Schloss Weilburg in Germany, was created by Munich architect Max Ostenrieder and Luxembourgish architect Pierre Funck-Eydt. The castle features a prominent 65-meter-high tower and sits amidst expansive parkland. It has been the primary residence of the Grand Ducal family since 1911, witnessing significant historical events including royal births and political ceremonies.
Although the castle is not open to the public, it remains a vital symbol of Luxembourg’s monarchy and heritage Berg Castle.
