Brunnenburg
Italy, Italy
Brunnenburg is a medieval castle located near the village of Tirolo, above Merano in South Tyrol, northern Italy.
Originally built around 1250, it stands on a hillside between Tirolo and the famous Tyrol Castle, offering impressive views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. After periods of decline and restoration, the castle was extensively renovated in the 20th century and became closely associated with the American poet Ezra Pound.
It is also home to the Ezra Pound Center for Literature, which attracts scholars and students from around the world. Today, Brunnenburg is known both as a cultural landmark and as the site of the South Tyrolean Agricultural Museum, which showcases the region’s rural traditions and farming heritage. Surrounded by vineyards and historic landscapes, it remains one of South Tyrol’s most distinctive and scenic castles.
