Casa Cuba, more commonly known as La Cuba or the Cuba Palace, is one of Palermo’s most important Arab-Norman monuments.

Built in 1180 for King William II of Sicily, it served as a royal pleasure pavilion within a vast landscaped park called Genoardo, which featured gardens, water features, and an artificial lake surrounding the palace. The building is a remarkable example of the blend of Norman and Islamic artistic traditions that characterized medieval Sicily.

Its simple geometric form, decorative arches, Arabic inscriptions, and climate-conscious design reflect strong Arab influences and demonstrate the cultural exchange that flourished on the island during the Norman period. Over the centuries, La Cuba was used for various purposes, including as a hospital and military facility, but it has survived as one of Sicily’s most significant historic landmarks.
