The Cascade de Reinhardstein, located near the village of Ovifat in the commune of Waimes in eastern Belgium, is the highest waterfall in the country, with a total drop of about 60 metres. It flows in the valley of the Warche river, close to the Robertville dam and just beside the historic Reinhardstein Castle, one of the most notable medieval castles in the Ardennes. Although many people mistakenly consider the Coo Waterfalls to be Belgium’s tallest, the Reinhardstein cascade is in fact higher, even if it is less famous and often narrower, especially in dry periods. The site is accessible via marked hiking paths that start near the castle or from parking areas close to the Robertville dam; the walk involves some descent into the wooded valley and can be slippery and uneven, so it is best suited for visitors with a moderate level of mobility. The combination of a powerful cascade, dense forest scenery, and the presence of Reinhardstein Castle makes the location a popular destination for nature lovers and those interested in Belgian heritage landscapes.
