Verified Castel Dè Ratti

Italy, Italy

Castel Dè Ratti, more commonly known as Castello di Torre Ratti, is a historic castle located in the village of Torre Ratti in Borghetto di Borbera, in the Province of Alessandria, Piedmont.

Its origins date back to the 11th century, and it played an important role in controlling the border area between the Duchy of Milan, the Republic of Genoa, and nearby territories. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and transformed from a defensive fortress into an elegant fortified residence.

Notable additions include a large square tower built in the 17th century, while later renovations introduced Renaissance and Baroque architectural features. Surrounded by a park and linked to the nearby Abbey of San Bernardo, the castle is closely connected to the noble Rati-Opizzoni family, who controlled the area for generations.
