Castelbuono is a charming medieval town in the Madonie Mountains of northern Sicily, known for its historic atmosphere, narrow streets, and rich cultural heritage.

The town developed around the Ventimiglia Castle, which was built in 1316 by the powerful Ventimiglia family on the site of an earlier Byzantine settlement. The castle remains the town’s most famous landmark and combines Arab, Norman, and Swabian architectural influences. Inside, it houses the Civic Museum and the splendid Palatine Chapel of Saint Anne, which contains important religious relics and elaborate Baroque stucco decorations.

Today, Castelbuono is celebrated for its well-preserved historic center, traditional Sicilian culture, and scenic setting within the Madonie Natural Park. Its blend of medieval history, art, local traditions, and mountain landscapes makes it one of Sicily’s most attractive and authentic destinations.
