Castello di Carimate
Carimate, Province of Como, Italy, Italy
Castello di Carimate is a striking medieval castle located in the town of Carimate, in the Province of Como, Lombardy.
The current structure dates mainly to 1345, when it was rebuilt by Luchino Visconti on the site of an earlier fortification, and it became an important defensive stronghold along the routes between Milan and Como. Over the centuries, the castle was expanded and restored by the Visconti and Sforza families.
It hosted notable historical figures, including Emperor Maximilian I and Bianca Maria Sforza, and features characteristic medieval elements such as a tower, battlements, a central courtyard, and traces of a former moat and drawbridge. Known for its Gothic appearance and well-preserved architecture, the castle later served as a noble residence and even housed a famous recording studio used by prominent musicians.
